Norwegian Wood
Apr. 1st, 2011 12:57 amNo spoilers, I swear.
Not meaning to spam tonight, but I forgot to share. I just watched Norwegian Wood, Tran Anh Hung's adaptation of Murakami's novel, and I'm still in a hazy mood from it. Won't give you any spoilers if you haven't seen it, it's just that it was completely transporting and loaded with emotion. I also loved Jonny Greenwood's scoring; not his best work, but still, quite affecting. The film was quite different in feel from the novel, but that's not really a bad thing. I can somehow appreciate both as separate bodies of work. Also, Rinko Kikuchi was amazing in her interpretation of Naoko. Just breathtaking, really. In an interview with Dazed Digital, she has this to say about her experience: "We were shooting for six months and by the end I really became Naoko and I loved her. On the last day of the shoot I was crying a lot because I didn’t want to lose her but at the same time I knew I’d have to. I had to peel away her character, but it hurt." Read more about it here.
I also just have to mention that the girl who played Midori almost stole the show. Almost. I loved the female cast.
(It's not just the GANTZ connection, I swear.) Matsuken totally gave off Nino vibes in Norwegian Wood.

YES? Totally Nino. For some reason. I think it's the nose? Or it's just me lol.
Matsuken's an awesome actor (and pretty damn gorgeous as well, no discounting that), but I couldn't help daydreaming about what if Nino got to act in this film. OH GOD. TOTALLY WOULD HAVE BEEN EPIC.Pry me away from my daydreams, przzzz
