I woke up from a terrible dream. As it is with all nocturnal meanderings, all the details got lost upon waking up. All I remember was that I was licking my teeth one by one; and to my horror, each started caving in as I scooped it with the tip of my tongue at the base of my gums. It left me with a mouthful of teeth and blood, which I gargled. I spit it all out, and found myself puking some unidentifiable black liquid. It went on and on until I felt like I puked a bucket's worth of black gunk. Not to be so superciliously pun-ny but... it left quite a bad taste in my mouth, even after hours of being awake. I know that dreams about teeth falling out are fairly common, but it disturbed me so much. Besides, I'm not the type to dream and remember; I'm a deep sleeper. And why, may I ask, does it have to be all of my teeth? Why the black liquid?

I looked it up, and these are some of the theories as to what falling teeth in dreams mean.

  1.  One theory is that dreams about your teeth reflect your anxiety about your appearance and how others perceive you.
  2.  Another rationalization for these falling teeth dream may be rooted in your fear of being embarrassed or making a fool of yourself in some specific situation.
  3.  Teeth are used to bite, tear, chew and gnaw. In this regard, teeth represent power. And the loss of teeth in your dream may be from a sense of powerlessness.
  4.  In the Greek culture, when you dream about loose, rotten, or missing teeth, it indicates that a family member or close friend is very sick or even near death.
  5.  According to the Chinese, there is a saying that your teeth will fall out if your are telling lies.
  6.  It has also been said that if you dream of your teeth falling out, then it symbolizes money. This is based on the old tooth fairy story. If you lose a tooth and leave it under the pillow, a tooth fairy would bring you money.
  7.  A bad tooth may represent a painful or rooten part of one's feelings, life or relationships; angry or regretful words.
I'll take Number 6, thank you very much.
