The Earth is where we make our stand
May. 2nd, 2011 03:09 am"Pale Blue Dot is a photograph of planet Earth taken from a record distance of 3.7 billion miles, at the edge of our solar system. It was shot and transmitted by the Voyager 1 spacecraft almost 13 years after its launch."
It is also one of my favorite pictures, ever. On Twitter, I randomly clicked on a link about "the most epic photographs ever taken", and this was among them. A couple of years ago, a former teacher (who knows that I have a vague obsession with astronomy) sent this picture to me through email, along with the text. I remember just staring at that pale blue dot, unable to muster up words to describe how I felt. Well, Carl Sagan can put it more aptly than I ever can.

( "From this distant vantage point, the Earth might not seem of particular interest. But for us, it's different. Look again at that dot. That's here, that's home, that's us." )
