Pynchon virgin

I finally borrowed Thomas Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow from the library before I ate at Gypsies with Andrea this afternoon. A friend has been recommending Pynchon to me for ages, but I'm usually wary of (what I think is) over-written, postmodern garbage. Honestly, it just scares me. I'm on page 3, and I can't understand a thing. My friend says it will make sense when I reread the book, all 760 pages of its postmodern, pastiche-y density. "It's even better the fifth time around." Delayed gratification, much?
We'll see. I will finish this book.
